Wichita, Kan. – The Rattlers’ men’s soccer team finished their season in style Sunday, blitzing Newman University with an offensive onslaught to win 3-1 on the road.

Daniel Sanguineti (Sr., Tucson, Ariz.), Sean Strater (Sr., Carrollton, Texas) and Adam “Chuy” Muro (So., San Antonio) all scored goals for the Rattlers. The victory helped St. Mary’s finish with a 4-13 overall mark, including a 2-6 record in Heartland Conference play.

Thanks to first-half goals from Sanguineti and Strater, St. Mary’s built a quick 2-0 lead. A penalty kick in the 63rd minute from Newman’s Jordan Saybounkham cut the advantage in half, but Muro struck in the 73rd minute to put the Rattlers back up by two late in the game.   Muro’s goal marked his third of the year, good enough for the team lead. He also registered an assist, setting up Sanguineti’s header for a 1-0 lead.   Sanguineti’s goal was his first of the season, while Strater netted his second of the year.

Goalkeeper David Schmelzer (Fr., Castroville, Texas) recorded seven saves and allowed just one goal in 90 minutes of action.

St. Mary’s and Newman each recorded 13 shots in the contest.
