San Antonio – It wasn’t until before Monday’s volleyball practice that St. Mary’s University junior defensive specialist Stephanie Flores learned she had made an all-tournament team following a sensational weekend.

Come Tuesday, she’s likely to learn of another honor.

Flores (San Antonio) has been named by the Heartland Conference the Player of the Week at the libero position after averaging 4.7 digs per set over five matches last week, the conference announced Monday evening.

Her week was highlighted by a season-high 28 digs in a victory over Cameron University in Tarleton State’s TexAnn Invitational. She finished the tournament as the leader among all liberos with 77 digs over 17 sets, good enough to be named to the all-tournament team.

Afterward, St. Mary’s coach Jenny Warmack-Chipman said Flores’ numbers rivaled what are typically good enough to garner a libero national honors – an observation that was spot-on with Flores taking home conference player of the week honors.
