Wichita, Kan. – St. Mary’s University hit 10 homeruns in a single game, helping the Rattlers to a split of a Heartland Conference doubleheader against Newman University, 12-14, 24-7, Saturday afternoon.

The Rattlers scored at least two runs in every inning of the second game of the doubleheader, setting a season high for runs scored. The 24 runs was the fifth most in NCAA Division II history for the Rattlers, while their 10 homeruns was the second most in school history. Seven different players hit at least one homerun in the game, including Ryan Morrow (Jr., Bulverde, Texas), Greg Herbst (Jr., San Antonio) and Weston Baros (Jr., San Antonio), who each hit two homeruns. Morrow also hit a homerun in the first game, giving him three for the doubleheader. He now has a team-high 12 this season.

Carl O’Neal (Fr., San Antonio) picked up his second win as a Rattler. All nine Rattler starters had base hits, with seven different starters smacking two or more base hits. Morrow drove in 6 runs in the game, while Herbst had 4 base hits.

In the first game of the day, the Rattlers fell behind by nine runs, before rallying late to nearly steal the victory. St. Mary’s scored five runs in the top of the seventh inning, to pull to within two runs. Morrow smacked a solo homerun to lead things off in the seventh inning, then Reagan Moczygemba (Jr., Bulverde, Texas), Tyler Migl (So., San Antonio) and John McElroy (So., San Antonio) each had extra base hits that scored runs during the rally.

With the split, St. Mary’s is now 28-12 overall, 25-11 in Heartland Conference play. Newman is now 17-23, 16-20. The Rattlers will return to action on Wednesday, when they will host the University of the Incarnate Word in a Heartland Conference doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. at V.J. Keefe Stadium.
