San Antonio – St. Mary’s University used a dominating offensive attack and took advantage of numerous errors by Lincoln University to total 38 runs as the Rattlers completed a four-game sweep of Blue Tigers, 11-9, 27-3, in Heartland Conference baseball action Saturday afternoon at V.J. Keefe Field.

In the first game of the doubleheader, the Rattlers took a commanding 11-4 lead before the Blue Tigers rallied to make a game of it late. Courtney Behrend (Sr., Comfort, Texas) picked up the win, allowing three earned runs on five hits and two walks, while striking out three in four innings. Lincoln scored five runs in the top of the sixth inning before Sammy Rivas (Jr., San Antonio) came in and shut the door on the Blue Tigers to pick up his third save of the season.

In the second game of the day, the Rattlers scored in five straight innings and rolled to the easy win. 12 different Rattlers picked up at least one hit in the game, including six players with two or more base knocks. Tyler Migl (So., San Antonio) went 4-of-6 with two RBI and five runs scored. James Hipp (Sr., Uvalde, Texas) 3-of-4 with four RBI and four runs scored. Carl O’Neal (Fr., San Antonio) tossed six shutout innings to pick up his fourth victory of the season. He allowed just two hits and three walks, while striking out seven.

The 27 runs scored in a single game are the third most since St. Mary’s moved to NCAA Division II in 2000. St. Mary’s has scored 20 or more runs five times this season.

With the win, St. Mary’s is now 36-14 overall and 32-12 in Heartland Conference play. The Rattlers have won eight straight games. Lincoln fell to 12-33, 10-32. The Rattlers are now in first place in the Heartland Conference standings by one-half game over the University of the Incarnate Word. The Rattlers will try to clinch the Heartland Conference regular season title next Friday and Saturday when they travel to Laredo, Texas, to face Texas A&M International University in a four-game series.
