San Antonio – Kacie Easley smacked a three-run homerun in the top of the eighth inning, helping 22nd-ranked Angelo State University to a 9-6 win in eight innings over St. Mary’s University in non-conference softball action Wednesday afternoon at St. Mary’s University Softball Field.

The Rattlers fell behind 3-0 after three innings, before using the long ball to take the lead. Sarah Perez (Fr., San Marcos, Texas) led off the bottom of the third with a solo homerun. One out later Katie Nichols (Fr., San Marcos, Texas) singled and Lauren Miller (Jr., Baytown, Texas) followed with a single. That brought up Arlynda Flores (Sr., Uvalde, Texas), who smacked her sixth homerun of the season to give the Rattlers a 4-3 lead. Alyssa Alfaro (Jr., Eagle Pass, Texas) gave the Rattlers a two-run lead with a single, scoring Kelly Baker (Jr., Arlington, Texas).

That was where the score would stay until the sixth inning. Meagan Pumphrey pulled the Rambelles to within one run with a solo homerun. Alix Dean singled home the tying run three batters later. Kaycee Taylor then gave ASU a one-run lead with an RBI double.

The Rattlers rallied again to send the game into extra innings. With one out, Flores singled and Baker followed with a walk. Christina Rodriguez (Fr., San Antonio) walked to load the bases. Alfaro tied the game with a sacrifice fly, scoring Flores, sending the game into extra innings. The next inning Easley gave the Rambelles the lead for good with her game-winning homerun.

With the loss, St. Mary’s fell to 28-16, while Angelo State improved to 34-9. The Rattlers will return to action on Saturday, when they travel to Austin, Texas, to face St. Edward’s University in a Heartland Conference doubleheader, starting at noon.
