San Antonio – The fall sports season officially comes to an end this week as the men’s and women’s soccer teams host games at St. Mary’s University Soccer Field, while the volleyball team hits the road to wrap things up.

Last Wednesday the Rattler volleyball team hosted their annual “Dig Pink” for breast cancer awareness night as they took on the University of the Incarnate Word in Heartland conference play. The Rattlers fought through five sets of action, but were ultimately defeated by the University of the Incarnate Word 20-25, 25-13, 28-26, 21-25 and 15-10. Katelyn Kershner (Jr., San Antonio) helped lead the rattlers through battle with 13 kills and 11 digs. Allie Murray (Fr., San Antonio) had 27 assists and 17 digs, while Stephanie Flores (So., San Antonio) had 28 digs. At the end of the Match the Rattlers raised $3,839 to support breast cancer research, nearly $2,000 more than last year’s event. The Lady Rattlers played their last home match Saturday, falling to the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith. With the loss, the Rattlers fell to 6-21 this season. St. Mary’s will hit the road for the remainder of their season, facing Texas A&M-International University on Thursday Nov. 5th and St. Edwards University on Saturday Nov. 7th.

Saturday, the Men’s soccer team took on Eastern New Mexico University, who forced the Rattlers into overtime after tying up the game in the last three seconds on play. The Rattlers held off the Greyhounds until the second overtime when they fell 3-2 at St. Mary’s University soccer field. With the loss, the Rattlers are now 5-10-1 overall and 3-4-1 in Heartland Conference play this season. St. Mary’s will return to action on Friday Nov. 6th when they host Incarnate Word at 2 p.m. at St. Mary’s University Soccer Field and Sunday Nov. 8th when they host St. Edward’s at 1 p.m.

The Rattler women’s soccer team faced Texas A&M International in Laredo on Friday afternoon, breaking their three-game losing streak. Carolina Hernandez (Jr., El Paso) got the ball rolling, scoring the first goal of the game. It wasn’t until the 70th minute of play when the Lady Rattlers clinched the victory, scoring four goals in a 10-minute period. Lea Kirch (Fr., Carrolton), Michelle Romero (Sr., El Paso), Emilie Snelson (So., Fairview) and Ana Primera (Sr., San Antonio) each had goals in the 5-1 victory over A&M International. The Rattlers returned to San Antonio Sunday to take on the University of the Incarnate Word and fell 0-1. With the loss the Lady Rattlers stand at 4-12-1 for the season. The team will return to St. Mary’s Field on Saturday Nov. 7th to close out their season against St. Edwards University at 1 p.m.
