San Antonio – Haley Crandall’s goal in the 67th minute was the lone tally as Midwestern State University defeated St. Mary’s University, 1-0, in women’s soccer action Friday night in Wichita Falls. The Rattler men’s soccer team fell to 10th-ranked Fort Lewis College, 5-0.

For the Rattler women, the game was an opportunity loss. Both teams had seven shots on goal, while St. Mary’s had 12 shots overall, compared with MSU’s 16. But the difference was Crandall’s goal off a pass from Lindsay Prichard 66:24 into the match. Mari Edwards (Fr., Apex, N.C.) made six saves in her collegiate debut for St. Mary’s. Melinda Gentry (Jr., Plano) took four shots, including three on goal, to lead the Rattler offense.

St. Mary’s fell to 0-1 with the loss, while Midwestern State improved to 1-0. St. Mary’s will return to action on Sunday when they travel to Abilene Christian University for a non-conference match at 1 p.m.

The Rattler men also are 0-1 after the loss to Fort Lewis. St. Mary’s will return to action on Sunday when they travel to Grand Junction, Colo., to face Mesa State University at 1 p.m.
