San Antonio – March Madness is set to start at St. Mary’s University Friday. The Rattlers, currently ranked 16th in the nation will host the 2009 Heartland Conference Tournament on Friday and Saturday at Bill Greehey Arena.

The defending Heartland Conference Champions and top seed will face fourth-seeded St. Edward’s University at noon in the first semifinal of the day. Second-seed University of the Incarnate Word and third-seed Texas A&M International University will meet in the second semifinal, scheduled to start at 2:30 p.m. The championship game will be on Saturday at 2 p.m.

St. Mary’s (23-4 overall, 12-2 Heartland Conference) enters Friday’s game with a two-game win streak. They defeated the Hilltoppers 65-55 in San Antonio and 67-65 in Austin. St. Edward’s is 15-12, 9-5.

The St. Mary’s men’s basketball team will open play at the Heartland Conference Men’s Championship on Friday at 8 p.m. The third seeded Rattlers (17-10, 12-4) will face second seed Dallas Baptist University at the University of the Incarnate Word. The championship game will be at 6 p.m. on Saturday, also at UIW.
