KINGSVILLE – St. Mary’s University lost twice late in the ballgame and was swept by Texas A&M University-Kingsville, 5-4 and 10-6 in non-conference softball action Tuesday afternoon at Hubert Field.

In the first game the Rattlers took a 4-1 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh inning thanks to some strong pitching by Arlynda Flores (Jr., Uvalde). However, the Javelinas picked up base hits by the first three batters and pulled two within two when Yvette Berlanga was hit by a pitch. A single by Melissa St. Clair then tied the game at 4-4. That chased Flores and brought in Taryn Munoz (Jr., Bulverde). However Meisha Patterson ended the game with a sacrifice fly that scored Berlanga.

In the second game the Ratters again took a lead into the late innings. St. Mary’s led 5-3 entering the bottom of the sixth inning. This time the Javelinas picked up seven runs and won 10-6.

In the doubleheader Kelly Baker (So., Arlington) had five hits, including a career-high four in the opener. Michelle Soto (Fr., San Antonio) picked up four hits of her own.

With the sweep St. Mary’s fell to 2-5 this season and has lost five straight games. TAMUK improved to 6-0. The Rattlers will return to action on Friday when they travel to Abilene to play in the ACU/Wildcat Diamond Dames Classic.
