San Angelo – Thirteenth-ranked Angelo State University scored eight runs in the second inning and held off a late inning rally for a 13-9 win over St. Mary’s University in non-conference baseball action Thursday night at Foster Field.

Travis Lites and Trey Carter each smashed homeruns over the first two innings as the Rams opened up a 10-1 lead and looked to have the game wrapped up. But Jonathon Perez (Fr., San Antonio) and Courtney Behrend (Jr., Comfort) shut out the Rams over the last 3 2/3 innings of the game, giving the Rattlers a chance to rally.

Ricky Gonzalez (Sr., Houston) started a three-run rally in the fourth inning with an RBI single. The following inning a pair of Ram errors helped the Rattlers score three more runs to make it an 11-7 game. However, the Rams responded with two more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and a pair of late Rattler runs were not enough in the loss.

Gonzalez led the way for the Rattlers, going 3-of-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. Michael Brzezinski (Sr., Helotes), Jonathon Cisneros (Jr., San Antonio) and Colin Stock (So., Klamath Falls, Ore.) each added two hits apiece for the Rattlers.

With the loss the Rattlers fell to 21-11 overall this season. Angelo State improved 24-10. St. Mary’s had its weekend series at Oklahoma Panhandle State University moved from Friday-Saturday to Sunday-Monday. Start time on Sunday will be at noon.
