San Antonio – Sade Moore had seven hits, while Arlynda Flores smacked two homeruns as St. Mary’s University split a doubleheader against Texas A&M University-Kingsville, 6-7, 14-2, in non-conference softball action Wednesday night at Rattler Field.

Moore (Sr., Angleton) went 4-for-5 in the first game of the doubleheader, and then followed that up by going 3-for-4 in the second game. She also scored five runs for the Rattlers. Flores (Jr., Uvalde) had four hits in the two games, including two homeruns. She now has 17 this season, the top homerun total in the Heartland Conference. She went a combined 4-of-6 with four RBI and three runs scored.

The Rattlers quickly turned the second game of the day into a runaway as St. Mary’s scored five runs in each of the first two innings to take a 10-0 lead and were never headed from there. Flores picked up the win in relief, improving to 9-10 this season.

In the first game of the day the Rattlers took a 3-0 lead after three innings, but TAMUK rallied and took a 6-5 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh inning. But Kelly Baker (So., Arlington) smacked a run-scoring single to center to bring home Moore with the tying run, sending the game into extra innings. TAMUK finally scored a run in the top of the ninth inning to secure the win.

With the split the Rattlers improved to 21-24 this season. TAMUK is now 23-16. The Rattlers will return to action on Friday when they travel to Laredo to face Texas A&M International University in a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
