Edmond, Okla. – Jennifer Edwards walk-off three-run homerun in the bottom of the seventh inning completed a five-run rally for the University of Central Oklahoma as the Bronchos defeated St. Mary’s University, 7-4, in non-conference softball action Thursday afternoon.

The Rattlers took a 4-2 lead early in the game on a two-run single by Arlynda Flores (Jr., Uvalde) and a two-run homerun by Heather Monroe (Jr., New Braunfels). However, the Bronchos tied the game on a two-run double by Ashley Geter. That set up the bottom of the seven inning. With one out Nikki Hunt reached on an error and Lindsey McLaughlin walked. That brought up Edwards, who took a 1-2 Taryn Munoz (Jr., Bulverde) offering and sent it over the wall to end the game.

Munoz took the loss, falling to 14-14 this season. Flores started the game on the mound and went five innings, allowing just two unearned runs on three hits and three walks, while striking out five. Lauren Miller (So., Baytown) had two hits, while Monroe’s homerun was her fourth of the season.

With the loss, St. Mary’s fell to 25-27 overall, while UCO improved to 23-12. The Rattlers will return to action on Friday when they travel to Jefferson City, Mo., to face Lincoln University in a Heartland Conference doubleheader, starting at 2 p.m.
