San Antonio – St. Mary’s University baseball player Michael Brzezinski was named Heartland Conference Hitter of the Week for his play against St. Edward’s University, it was announced on Thursday.

Brzezinski (Sr., Helotes) helped lead the Rattlers to a series win against St. Edward’s, hitting .429 with a double, two homeruns, 10 RBI and six runs scored. He had at least one hit and two RBI in all three games. He smacked his second homerun of the season in the series opener. He followed that up by going 3-of-4 with a double, five RBI and three runs scored in the Rattlers 15-9 win in game two. In the final game of the series he smacked a two-out, three-run homerun in the ninth inning to send the game into extra frames. He went 2-of-6 with a homerun, three RBI and a run scored. For the season Brzezinski leads the Rattlers with a .377 average, 13 doubles, six triples, 34 RBI and 40 runs scored.

Brzezinski’s honor marked the fifth time this season that a Rattler has received Heartland Conference honors, and the second time for Brzezinski. He is the only Rattler to receive Hitter of the Week recognition. Courtney Behrend (Jr., Comfort), Scott Shimek (Sr., Shiner) and Braxton Watson (Sr., Spring) have all been named Pitcher of the Week.

St. Mary’s is 27-13 overall and 23-10 in Heartland Conference play this season. The Rattlers will return to action on Sunday when they host Newman University in a Heartland Conference doubleheader at V.J. Keefe Memorial Stadium, starting at 2 p.m.
