San Antonio – St. Mary’s University volleyball coach Todd Caughlin announced on Thursday the signing of Kirsten Chapman, Sondra Cui, Adrianna Keys, Holly Moreno and Stephanie Proske to national letters of intent to join the Rattlers for the 2008 season.

Chapman (Fr., Jourdanton) is a middle blocker from Jourdanton High School where she was a four-sport athlete, lettering in basketball, cross-country, track and field and volleyball. For coach Joella Gallegos she was a three-time all-district honoree and two-time district MVP. On the basketball courts she was a three-time all-district selection. She was a regional qualifier in cross country once and a four-time regional qualifier in track and field.

Cui (Fr., Schertz) was a two-year letterwinner for coach Cathy Glunt at Byron P. Steele High School. She earned All-District 26-4A honors both of her years at Steele. In each of her two years at Steele she earned all-tournament honors at the Wagner High School Invitational. She also set a school record with 52 assists in a single match.

Keys (Fr., San Antonio) was a standout on both the track and volleyball teams at Robert E. Lee High School. For coach Mary Tschirhart she was a letterwinner and earned tournament MVP honors at the Seguin Volleyball Tournament twice. On the track she was a four-year letterwinner and was a regional qualifier in the high jump.

Moreno (Fr., Pearland) will join the Rattlers after earning all-district and all-state honors at Pearland High School for coach John Turner. As a senior she earned first team all-district, academic all-district, academic all-state and all-tournament honors at two tournaments. She earned academic all-district honors all four of her years at Pearland and all-district honors three times. She helped lead Pearland to a bi-district championship and a 31-6 record last season. She also helped PHS to the bi-district championship in 2006 and the regional quarterfinals in 2004. Off the court she earned the Principal’s Award, was a member of the Honor Roll, the Spanish Honor Roll and the Science Honor Society.

Proske (Fr., LaGrange) was a two-sport athlete for coach Wayne Walker at LaGrange High School, lettering in volleyball and track and field. On the court she was a two-time all-district honoree, was named Newcomer of the Year and Edward Jones Insurance Player of the Week. She helped lead LHS to the bi-district championship and area championship. On the track she was a district, regional and state qualifier in the high jump. Off the court she was a member of the Honor Roll, the National Honor Society, was named Academic All-District and Academic All-State.

The Rattlers finished the 2007 season with a 14-17 overall record and a 7-7 mark in the Heartland Conference. Samantha Weber (Sr., Fort Lupton, Colo.), Kori McCarver (Fr., San Antonio) and Courtney Matula (Sr., San Antonio) were all named All-Heartland Conference last season.
