San Antonio – Matt Vela finished seventh as an individual, helping the St. Mary’s University men’s golf team to a seventh place finish as a team at the Northeastern State University Golf Classic, played at the Emerald Falls Golf and Country Club on Tuesday.

Vela (So., San Antonio) fired a three-round total of 218 (70-76-72) to finish six strokes out of first. Patrick Hanauer of Abilene Christian University took medalist honors, firing a final round 68 to finish with a three-round total of 212 (71-73-68), one stroke ahead of Colby Shrum of the University of Central Oklahoma and Cyril Bouniol of Abilene Christian.

Jadon Mehra (So., San Antonio) had his best tournament as a Rattler, placing 14th overall with a 222 (77-71-74). Preston Akromis (Sr., San Antonio) was 40th with a 233 (76-81-76), Alex Maurer (Sr., St. Louis, Mo.) tied for 63rd with a 241 (83-81-77) and James Grant (Jr., San Antonio) tied for 76th with a 250 (80-85-85).

As a team the Rattlers tied for seventh overall with a three-round total of 911 (303-309-299). Abilene Christian edged out Central Oklahoma for the team title, 881 to 882. Washburn University was third with an 885, Northeastern State University placed fourth with a 890, Arkansas Tech University was fifth with 891, the University of Central Missouri was sixth with a 901 and Texas A&M University-Commerce and St. Mary’s University tied for seventh place.

The Rattlers will return to action on Monday when they host the Bruce Williams Memorial Invitational, held at The Dominion Golf Club.
