San Antonio – St. Mary’s University softball coach Donna Fields announced on Friday the signing of two student-athletes to national letters of intent to play for the Rattlers, starting with the 2008-09 academic year. Stacey Moss and Michelle Soto will join St. Mary’s next season.

Moss (Fr., 5’6″, C/3B, San Antonio) comes to St. Mary’s from Floresville High School where she earned numerous honors while playing for former Rattler All-American Aimee Silva. She was an all-district honoree, team Offensive MVP and team captain. She was also named Newcomer of the Year. Moss helped FHS to a regional quarterfinalist berth in 2007. She was also recognized for her work in the classroom as Academic All-District three times and Academic All-State once. Moss was a standout on the volleyball court as well, earning all-district and all-state honors. Off the field she was a member of the National Honor Society and an Honor Roll student.

Soto (Fr., 5’1″, P, San Antonio) played softball for coach Mary Ann Villarreal at Thomas Edison High School… Off the field she was a member of the National Honor Society.

The Rattlers ended the 2008 season with a record of 53-12 overall, including a 26-2 mark in Heartland Conference play. The Rattlers won the Heartland Conference regular season and tournament titles for the first time. They won the Heartland Conference Tournament for the eighth straight season and also advanced to the NCAA Division II South Central Region Tournament for the eighth straight season. The 53 wins is the second most in school history.
