San Antonio – St. Mary’s University softball player Malissa Magee was named Heartland Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week for her play last week against Angelo State, Abilene Christian and Saginaw Valley State, it was announced by the league office on Thursday.

Magee (Sr., Katy) was in top form last week, helping the Rattlers to a 5-1 record. Magee was a perfect 4-0 with a 1.06 ERA, three complete games and three shutouts in five games pitched. She threw a total of 26.1 innings for the week, striking out 29. She held opposing batters to just a .190 batting average for the week.

Against 5th-ranked Angelo State she allowed just five hits and one walk, while striking out eight to help the Rattlers to a key regional win over the Rambelles. In her next start against Saginaw Valley State she allowed just three hits, while striking out 10 in another complete game shutout. In the nightcap she came on in relief to toss a perfect inning and earn the win in extra innings. In her final out of the weekend she tossed six innings of scoreless ball, allowing just three hits and two walks in the Rattlers run-rule win over ACU.

For the season Magee is 14-2 with a 1.87 ERA, 11 complete games and five shutouts. She has thrown a total 104.2 innings, striking out 126 against just 18 walks. Opposing batters are hitting just .184 against Magee.

Magee was named Heartland Conference Pitcher of the Week for the second time in the first three weeks of the season. Sarah Cooper (Sr., Houston) was named Heartland Conference Hitter of the Week last week.

St. Mary’s is 18-4 overall and have won their last four in a row. St. Mary’s is in the midst of a nine-day break. They return to action on Tuesday, March 4 at Texas A&M University-Kingsville for a doubleheader, starting at 3 p.m.
