San Antonio – Five St. Mary’s University players reached double figures in kills, leading the Rattlers to a 25-22, 25-23, 22-25, 25-11, victory over Rollins College on the second day of the St. Mary’s/Texas MedClinic Invitational Friday night at Bill Greehey Arena. Earlier in the day the Rattlers swept past Eastern New Mexico, 25-16, 25-17, 28-26.

In the win over Rollins, the Rattlers totaled 65 kills against just 26 errors. In the decisive fourth set the Rattlers had 16 kills against four errors, while holding the Tars to just four kills and seven errors. Defensively the Rattlers had 66 digs and three blocks.

Stephanie Crowell (Jr., The Woodlands) led the way with 14 kills and six digs. Kori McCarver (So., San Antonio) had 13 kills, Sarah Moreno (Sr., Pearland) smacked 12 kills, KaSandra Larios (Fr., Harlingen) picked up 11 kills and Kirsten Chapman (Fr., Jourdanton) had 10 kills. Defensively Valerie Teter (Sr., San Antonio) led the way with 18 digs, while Lauren Johnston (Sr., Coppell) had 11 digs. Sondra Cui (Fr., Schertz) had 50 assists, three aces and six digs.

In the Rattlers win over Eastern New Mexico the Rattlers had 42 kills against just 17 errors. They had a season-high 12 aces and six blocks. McCarver led the way offensively with nine kills. Teter had 14 digs.

St. Mary’s improved to 3-0 with the wins; Eastern New Mexico is 0-3, while Rollins is 1-1. The Rattlers will go for the tournament championship on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. when they take on Augustana. The first match of the day will be at 10 a.m. when Augustana faces Rollins.
