WICHITA FALLS – Kelcy Walker smacked two homeruns and Taryn Munoz won her second game of the season, leading St. Mary’s University to a 7-1 win over East Central University in action at the Mustang Invitational Friday afternoon at the Wichita Falls Softball Complex.

Walker (Jr., San Antonio) smashed a three-run homerun in the first inning to give the Rattlers a 3-0 lead. One inning later she hit an RBI single to center, scoring Sarah Cooper (Jr., Houston) to give St. Mary’s a 4-0 lead. In the fifth inning Walker led off with a solo homerun to increase the Rattler advantage to 5-0. Pinch hitter Brittany Kettinger (Jr., Azle) completed the scoring with a two-run single later in the inning.

Munoz (Fr., Bulverde) tossed five innings of one-hit ball, facing just one batter over the minimum to improve to 2-0 on the season. Ericka Avila (Sr., El Paso) pitched the last two innings in her first action this season.

Ashley Flores (So., Friendswood) went 3-of-3 with a double and run scored. Cooper had two hits in four at-bats.

With the win St. Mary’s won its fifth straight game, and improved to 10-2 overall this season. East Central fell to 0-1 overall. St. Mary’s will continue play in the Mustang Invitational, taking on Northeastern State at 11 a.m. and host Midwestern State at 1 p.m. At 4 p.m. the Rattlers will play against an opponent to be determined.
