San Antonio – Cody Pyle had four hits and drop in six runs, while Caleb Staudt won his second game of the season as St. Mary’s University swept past Lincoln University, 9-5, 15-3, in Heartland Conference baseball action Friday afternoon at V.J. Keefe Memorial Stadium.

Pyle (Sr., Spring Branch) went 3-of-3 with a single, double and homerun in game one. He drove in three runs and scored three runs. In game two he went 1-of-2 with a three-run double and scored another run. Pyle’s two-run double in the first inning of game one led to a five-run inning in a 9-5 win.

While Pyle was leading the offense, Staudt (Sr., Leander) was mowing down the Blue Tigers. Staudt retired the first 12 batters of the game before Lincoln broke through in the fifth inning. However, Pyle smashed his first homerun of the season in the bottom of the inning, icing the win for the Rattlers.

In game two Brandon Lippe (Sr., Schertz) was even more dominant, allowing just four hits and one walk in five innings of work. He improved to 1-0 on the season with the win. Meanwhile the Rattler offense unloaded on Lincoln starter Justin Holliday, scoring 13 runs over the first three innings to take a commanding lead they wouldn’t lose.

Since being shut out in the first two games of the season, the Rattlers have scored 39 runs over the last four games.

With the sweep the Rattlers have now won four straight games and are 4-2 overall, 2-0 in Heartland Conference play. Lincoln fell to 1-5, 0-2. The teams will wrap up their four-game series on Saturday starting at 11 a.m. at V.J. Keefe Memorial Stadium.
