IRVING – KC Lim is second overall, while Jamie Amoretti is tied for third, helping St. Mary’s University to first place after the first day of the Heartland Conference Men’s Golf Championship at the Hackberry Creek Country Club Monday.

Lim (Sr., San Antonio) shot a one over par 73 in the first round, and then followed that up with a one-under par 71 in the second to stand just one stroke out of first place. He started the first round slow, shooting a three-over 39 on the first nine holes. But he bounced back with back-to-back birdies on the fifth and sixth holes to finish one-over. In the second round he had three birdies and an eagle, while carding two bogies and one double-bogey. He had the eagle on the par five-fifth hole.

Amoretti (Sr., San Antonio) came out of the gates hot in the first round, carding five birdies over the first 10 holes. But he didn’t get another over the final eight holes and had to settle for a tie for first at 72. However in the second round he had 14 pars and four bogies and found himself five strokes back of the leader Ronnie Van Woesik of Dallas Baptist.

Two other Rattlers are in the top-10 overall after the first round. Preston Akromis (So., San Antonio) is in ninth with a two-round total of 152 (79-73), while Jimmy Willingham (Jr., San Antonio) is tied for 10th with a 153 (74-79). Aaron Welch (Sr., Del Rio) is tied for 16th with a 156 (80-76).

The Rattlers shot a two-round total of 594 (298-296) to lead defending champion St. Edward’s by six strokes. Dallas Baptist is third with a 619, Lincoln is fourth with a 621, Incarnate Word is fifth with a 629, Montana State-Billings is sixth with a 646, Newman is seventh with 647, Texas A&M-International is eighth with a 677 and Oklahoma Panhandle State is ninth with a 686.

Play will conclude at the Heartland Conference Championships on Tuesday with the final round at the Hackberry Creek Country Club.
