More than 300 St. Mary’s University students, faculty and staff came together Saturday to lend a helping hand to 15 local organizations at the twice yearly Continuing the Heritage event.

Continuing the Heritage was started in 1998 to celebrate the Marianist and Catholic tradition of St. Mary’s by conducting public service to the local community. At the start of each new semester, members of the St. Mary’s community come together to offer an estimated 1,000 hours of service to non-profit, charitable organizations throughout San Antonio.

Volunteers performed a variety of tasks at sites around the city, including landscaping, interior and exterior painting, alley cleanup, trash pickup and clerical assistance with various organizations.

Continuing the Heritage is sponsored by the St. Mary’s Service Learning Center and the Marianist Leadership Program.
