San Antonio – Brittany Kettinger tossed a one-hit shutout, while Jenna Saucedo had four hits to lead St. Mary’s University to a doubleheader sweep of Trinity University, 8-0, 11-3, in softball action Thursday night at Rattler Field.

Kettinger (Jr., Azle) allowed just one baserunner over five innings to pick up her fifth win of the season. Jamie Williams was the only Tiger to reach base against Kettinger on a four inning base-hit to left. Kettinger is now 5-2 overall on the season.

The Rattlers broke open the game in the second inning with a six-run outburst, led by Lindsay Barnes’ (Jr., San Antonio) seventh homerun of the season, a three-run shot. Then in the fifth inning Barnes singled to lead off and Kelcy Walker (Jr., San Antonio) singled to put two runners on with no outs. Heather Monroe (Fr., New Braunfels) then ended the game with a two-run double to left-center, putting the Rattlers up by eight runs.

In game two it was a nine-run third inning that put the Rattlers up big as they cruised to their second straight run-rule victory. St. Mary’s had five straight hits, including three doubles in a row. Jenna Saucedo (So., San Antonio) smacked a two-run double to lead the charge in the inning.

On the mound Taryn Munoz (Fr., Bulverde) tossed three scoreless inning to pick up the win and improve to 3-1. Ericka Avila (Sr., El Paso) and Malissa Magee (Jr., Houston) completed the win.

In the doubleheader Saucedo went a combined 4-of-4 with two doubles, two RBI and three runs scored. Sarah Cooper (Jr., Houston) went 3-of-5 with a double, three RBI, two runs scored and two stolen bases.

With the sweep St. Mary’s improved to 17-6 overall, while Trinity fell to 4-4. The Rattlers will return to action on Wednesday when they host Regis University in a doubleheader, starting at 3 p.m. at Rattler Field.
