PORTALES, N.M. – Both St. Mary’s University soccer teams fell by a single goal; the women to Eastern New Mexico University in overtime, and the men to Colorado State-Pueblo, in action Sunday afternoon at ENMU Soccer Field.

In the men’s game the Rattlers battled to a scoreless tie in the first half before CSUP put the only goal in the net in the early going of the second half. Dillon Good took an indirect free kick and hit Udobong Obetette with a pass that Obetette put into the back of the net. That would be all the scoring in the game that featured just 18 total shots.

The women fell behind early on a Kimberely Anaya goal in the first half, but bounced back in the second frame. Fifteen minutes into the second half Amanda McMullan (Jr., Allen) sent a cross into the box and Lauren Scally (Fr., Rhome) turned and scored her first goal as a Rattler to tie things at 1-1. That was where things would stay until sixth minute of the second overtime when Marcela Garcia headed a ball past goalkeeper Jamie Montero (Fr., Iowa Park) for the game-winning goal.

With the loss the Rattler women fell to 2-1 overall. The men are now 1-2. The women will stay on the road when they travel to El Paso, to take on the University of Texas-El Paso Tuesday night at 8 p.m. The men will host the University of Texas-Permian Basin on Friday at 2 p.m.
