San Antonio – St. Mary’s University softball player Malissa Magee was named Heartland Conference Pitcher of the Week for third time this season for her play against Texas A&M University-Kingsville and Trinity, it was announced by the conference office recently.

Magee (Jr., Houston) earned the honor for the third time in five weeks this season. Magee has already been named Heartland Conference Pitcher of the Year each of her two seasons at St. Mary’s.

Magee was in top form that week, allowing just four hits over 11 shutout innings. She struck out 11 and allowed no walks as the Rattlers went 3-1 against Texas A&M-Kingsville and Trinity. In her first game of the week, she limited the Javelinas to just two hits in a complete game shutout, while striking out seven. She came on in relief in the nightcamp and allowed just two base hits over three innings. She also tossed a perfect inning against Trinity.

For the season Magee is 12-5 overall with a 0.75 ERA, 13 complete games and six shutouts. She has tossed 111.1 innings, allowing just 67 hits and 15 walks, while striking out 119. Opponents are hitting just .174 against her.

St. Mary’s (22-10 overall, 2-0 Heartland) had its doubleheader, scheduled for Tuesday afternoon against Lincoln University, postponed due to inclement weather. The teams will make up the games on Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m. at Rattler Field.
