San Antonio–The University of the Incarnate Word rallied to win the final three games and defeated St. Mary’s University, 31-33, 30-26, 30-27, 30-23, in Heartland Conference volleyball action Wednesday night at the McDermott Center.

Game one of the match featured seven ties and four lead changes and saw the Rattlers rally from a five-point deficit to win 33-31. In the game the Rattlers had 23 kills against just five attack errors for a .321 percentage. But that would be the highlight of the night for the Rattlers, who hit .060 the rest of the match and had just 31 kills over the final three games in falling to their cross-town rivals.

Samantha Weber (Sr., Fort Lupton, Colo.) led the way with 14 kills and four blocks. Kori McCarver (Fr., San Antonio) had her second straight triple-double with 12 kills, 24 assists and 13 digs. Valerie Teter (Jr., San Antonio) had 20 digs to lead the defensive effort.

With the loss the Rattlers fell to 9-10 overall and 4-3 in Heartland Conference play. UIW improved to 13-7, 6-1. The Rattlers will return to action on Friday when they host Angelo State University in a non-conference tilt at Bill Greehey Arena, starting at 7 p.m.
