PENSACOLA, Fla. – St. Mary’s University women’s golfer Jessica Harbin fired an opening round 72 and is tied for second place overall after the first round of the NCAA Division II Women’s Golf Championship, played at the Stonebrook Golf Club.

Harbin (Sr., Tuscola) started the round with five straight pars, but had bogies on two of the next three holes to fall to +2. She rebounded with a birdie on the par five ninth to complete the front nine a one-over 37. She then pared the next seven holes before carding a birdie on the par-four 17th and had a par on the 18th to finish at even par for the round.

Harbin’s score puts her just one stroke behind the overall leader Marcia Garcia Austt of Nova Southeastern University, who fired a one-under 71. Tied with Harbin is Lindsey Bergeon of Florida Southern College and Daniela Iacobelli of Florida Tech University. Three of the top four individuals in the standings are individuals.

Play will continue at Stonebrook Golf Club with the second round of the four-round tournament on Thursday at 8 a.m. Harbin will tee off at 9:50 a.m. Thursday morning.
