CANYON – Jessica Harbin fired a first round 73 to tie for the lead, helping the St. Mary’s University women’s golf team to a fourth place standing after the first round of the West Texas A&M University/Subway Invitational, played at the Tascosa Country Club on Monday.

Harbin (Sr., Tuscola) had 10 pars and four birdies for a one-over 73 in the first round of the tournament. She is tied with Mari Suursalu of the University of Central Oklahoma for the individual lead. Ashley Miller of UCO is two strokes back at 73, while Renee Breeze of Cameron is fourth at 78.

Marie Hulsey (Fr., El Paso) is tied for 20th place overall after shooting a first round 85. Right behind her is Elizabeth Brandt (Sr., Scottsdale, Ariz.) with an 86, good for a tie for 27th. Amanda Anderson (So., San Antonio) is tied for 33rd overall with an 89.

In the team competition UCO has three players in the top 15 individually and has the lead at 315, 10 strokes ahead of Cameron with a 325. Western New Mexico University is third at 326, while St. Mary’s is fourth at 333. Fort Hayes State University is fifth with a 340.

The tournament will conclude with the final round on Tuesday at the Tascosa Country Club. The tournament is the final tune-up before the Heartland Conference Tournament, set to start on April 16 in Dallas.
