San Antonio – Rod Bellard led four St. Mary’s University players scoring in double figures with 19 points, helping the Rattlers to an easy 95-49 win over Schreiner University in non-conference men’s basketball action Friday night at Bill Greehey Arena.

Bellard (Jr., Beaumont) hit on 7-of-12 shots from the field and 5-of-9 from three-point range to lead all scorers. The 19 points was a career high for Bellard. In his first game as a Rattler Lozeno Anthony (Jr., San Antonio) hit on 6-of-8 shots from the field to score 18 points. Robert Owens (Jr., Oakwood) added 17 points and eight rebounds, while Latez Williams (Sr., Hamilton, Ohio) had 11 points and nine rebounds, falling just one rebound short of a double-double.

The Rattlers started the game with a 15-0 run and never led by less than 12 the rest of the way. A three-pointer by Corey Harbert (Jr., San Antonio) at the 8:10 mark of the first half expanded the lead to 20 points at 26-6 and grew to over 50 points in the second half.

For the game the Rattlers shot 52.3 percent (34-65) from the field in the game, including a sizzling 71.4 percent (20-28) in the second half. St. Mary’s committed just nine turnovers in the game, while forcing Schreiner into 24. The Rattlers had 25 assists in the game, with Dominique Richardson (Sr., San Antonio) and Allen Coleman (Sr., Corpus Christi) combining for 15 assists and just two turnovers.

Schreiner shot 31.8 percent (14-44) from the field in the game. Riley Battle was the lone Mountaineer scoring in double figures with 11 points, including three three-pointers.

St. Mary’s improved to 1-0 on the season with the win, while Schreiner fell to 0-1. The Rattlers will return to action on Saturday night when they host regional rival Texas A&M University-Kingsville at 7:30 p.m. at Bill Greehey Arena.
