San Antonio – Tara Wicketts and Amy Crissman placed fifth overall as a team, helping St. Mary’s University to a strong showing in the season-opening University of the Incarnate Word Relays, held at Live Oak City Park Saturday morning.
Crissman (So., Gilbert, Ariz.) led off by covering the two-mile course in 12:35. Wicketts (Sr., Cibolo) followed with a time of 12:52, helping the duo to fifth overall, just 41 seconds out of first place.
The duo of Melissa Recio (Jr., Laredo) and Jessie Smith (So., Boerne) took 21st in a time of 29:54. Yesenia Bernal (Fr., San Antonio) and Katrina White (Fr., San Antonio) placed 28th in 32:32, while Amanda Benavides (Jr., San Antonio) and Shannah Schafer (Fr., San Antonio) were 31st in 34:26.
The Rattlers will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 22, at the Ricardo Romo Invitational, hosted by the University of Texas-San Antonio.
