San Antonio-St. Mary’s University cross country athletes Tara Wicketts and Bryon Plagge were named Heartland Conference runners of the week for the weeks of Sept. 1-15, it was announced by the conference office recently.

Wicketts (Jr., Cibolo) placed 14th overall at the season opening Texas State Invitational in a time of 19:08 for the five-kilometer distance to earn women’s runner of the week honors for the first time this season. She helped the Rattlers to fifth place overall in the team competition with her performance.

Plagge (So., San Antonio) picked up the men’s runner of the week award for his 19th place finish at the Texas State Invitational. He crossed the line in a time of 28:21 for the five-mile race. The race was Plagge’s first collegiate cross country meet.

The Rattlers will have their final tuneup before the Heartland Conference Championships this weekend when they travel to Seguin to compete in the Texas Lutheran Invitational at 9 a.m. In two weeks the Rattlers will head north to Billings, Mont., for the Heartland Conference meet.
