San Antonio — After splitting a double header with Incarnate Word on Friday, the Rattlers decided to take it a step further on Saturday, sweeping the Cardinals in a pair of road games on Saturday by the scores of 12-5 and 8-7.

With the victories, St. Mary’s (18-8, 13-3) pulled into a first-place tie with Incarnate Word in the Heartland Conference standings.

Rattlers pitcher Caleb Staudt picked up the victory in Game 1, while Brandon Lippe, who went the distance, recorded the “W” in Game 2.

In typical St. Mary’s fashion, the Rattlers rallied to win the back end of the double header, overcoming a 7-4 deficit to execute the 8-7 victory.

In the first game, the Rattlers cruised thanks to a seven-run second inning. In Game 2, meanwhile, the Rattlers scored two runs in each of the final three innings to pull off the rally.

The Rattlers resume play on Tuesday at V.J. Keefe Memorial Stadium, facing Angelo State University at 7 p.m.
