San Antonio – Four Rattlers scored in double figures as St. Mary’s University rolled past Sul Ross State University, 79-52, in non-conference men’s basketball action Saturday afternoon at Bill Greehey Arena.

After a relatively close first half in which the Rattlers took a 38-26 lead into the break, St. Mary’s took command early on in the second half. A 12-4 run to start the second half gave the Rattlers a 20-point advantage. The lead would increase that lead to as much as 27, which would be the final margin in the win.

St. Mary’s shot a sizzling 63.3 percent (31-49) from the field in the game, including 80.0 percent (4-5) from three-point range. The Rattlers also outrebounded the Lobos 55-26 in the game. Sul Ross State shot 35.2 percent from the field (19-54) and 33.3 percent (6-18) from three-point range.

Marcus Hill (Jr., Oakwood) led the way with 14 points on 5-of-6 shooting in just 20 minutes of action. Latez Williams (Jr., Hamilton, Ohio) and Jawan Bailey (Sr., San Antonio) each had 13 points, while Dominique Richardson (Jr., San Antonio) had 10 points. Bailey led the Rattlers with nine rebounds and four blocks, while Richardson had seven assists and three steals.

Travis Johnson and Anthony Mata each led the way for Sul Ross with 12 points.

With the win the Rattlers evened their record on the season at 1-1. Sul Ross State fell to 0-1 with the loss. St. Mary’s will return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Stephenville to take on Tarleton State University at 8 p.m.
