The Fiesta Oyster Bake, the heartbeat of San Antonio’s Fiesta celebration,
received top accolades during the
2003 Texas Festivals and Events Annual Conference in Corpus Christi on July
11-12.

Herman Ahr (BBA ’62), was named Volunteer of the Year, and Steve Rosenauer
(BA ’92, ‘MA 96), executive director,
was selected as the Carson Watt Professional of the Year while the Fiesta
Oyster Bake was named as the Best Event
to Benefit a Charity.

Sponsored by St. Mary’s University Alumni Association, the Fiesta Oyster
Bake is held on the campus of St. Mary’s University each spring, featuring
an all-volunteer Executive Committee, a few hundred key volunteers and
managers and 7,000 volunteers, who contribute some 50,000 volunteer hours
to the community event.

Ahr, a long time supporter of St. Mary’s University and the Fiesta Oyster
Bake, has served as FOB chairman twice.
Rosenauer’s association with the Fiesta Oyster Bake began as a student worker.

Founded in 1916, the Fiesta Oyster Bake raises funds for student
scholarships and University, alumni and San Antonio area community
programs. It has been an official Fiesta event since 1974.
