In their season-opener the Hawai`i Pacific University men’s basketball team
defeated St. Mary’s University of Texas, 83-78, in a non-conference game at
Mid-Pacific Institute’s Mills gymnasium in Honolulu, Hawai`i this evening.

Point guard Marvin Noble, led the Sea Warriors with a team-high 22 points
and three assists. Nic Walters had 20 points, six assists and two
steals. The big man combination of 6-foot-8 center Leandro Maruoka, and
6-7 forward Nate Block combined for 24 points and 15 rebounds that added to
the HPU attack. Block had 10 points, eight rebounds and two blocks.
Maruoka hit five-of-six shots from the field for 14 points and had seven
rebounds.

Fabrizio Mendiola got in the mix with six points and two assists. Rashad
Davis had five points and four rebounds, while Mike Baron converted on one
of two field goal attempts to go with two free throws.

The Sea Warriors takes on Carleton College of Minnesota this Wednesday,
Nov. 27th at 7:30 p.m. at Mid Pacific Institute’s Mills gym. The game will
be broadcast live on KUMU II – AM 1500 radio, and on the HPU Web site
