St. Mary’s University will offer a 12-hour certificate program in Software Engineering through the graduate Engineering Department starting this fall.

“This certificate program will allow students who are new to the field of software development to quickly acquire the necessary skills to become successful software engineers,” said Engineering Professor Djaffer Ibaroudene, Ph.D. “This program is ideal for those students who want to learn specific skills in software engineering without having to complete a full degree.”

Students will complete four of the following six courses: Software Project Planning and Management, Requirement Engineering, Software Design and Architecture, Software Quality Assurance, Software Verification and Validation, and Software Maintenance, Evolution and Re-engineering. Those who earn the certificate are eligible to continue toward a Master of Science degree in Software Engineering.

Applicants must have a Bachelor of Science degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science or Computer Engineering. Those whose degree is not in one of these areas must take two prerequisites: a programming language and data structures & algorithms.
