Biography
Leia Lozano is a Lecturer of Biological Sciences. Lozano received her Bachelor of Science in Genetics from Texas A&M College Station and obtained her Master of Science in Clinical Laboratory Science-Toxicology from the University of Texas Health Science Center.
Prior to joining St. Mary’s University, Lozano worked in Forensic Toxicology in Houston for several years. She later returned to San Antonio to pursue a certification in Medical Laboratory Science at the Texas Tech Health Science Center in Lubbock.
After completing her certification and becoming a board-certified Medical Laboratory Scientist, she started as an adjunct professor at St. Mary’s and, in conjunction, as the Program Assistant to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) funded Maximizing Access to Research Undergraduate Student Training in Academic Research (MARC U*STAR) Program. In addition to teaching, Lozano was also the Coordinator for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) funded Undergraduate Research Training Initiative for Student Enhancement (U-RISE) program.
Lozano actively volunteers as a Texas Master Naturalist, San Antonio River Authority River Warrior and Texas Waters Specialist, contributing her time as a trail monitor at the Headwaters of the Incarnate Word and as a volunteer at the Witte Museum.
