San Antonio – Bouncing back from a devastating knee injury that ended her sophomore season early, Leia Kirch’s first action this season earned her the honor of being named the Heartland Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the league has announced.

Kirch’s (Jr., Carrollton, Texas) claim to fame was her game-winning goal in double overtime against Lubbock Christian last Saturday that brought the Rattlers to a clean start of 2-0.

Her “Golden Goal” not only proved she is a clutch player but a consistent player, as she also scored a goal in the season opener against Houston-Victoria that started the Rattlers off at 1-0 for the season.

Kirch started all nine games she played last season before her injury and is picking up right where she left off, already equaling her total goals for last season in just her first two games back on the field.

Kirch and the rest of the St. Mary’s women’s soccer team will take on Missouri Southern State at 11 a.m. Sunday at Northside ISD Soccer Field.
