Local experts from all sides weighed in on “The Great Debate: Immigration Issues in Texas and the U.S.” Monday at St. Mary’s University School of Law. This round table discussion included U.S. Rep. Charles A. Gonzalez; George Rodriguez, San Antonio Tea Party; Nina Perales, National Litigation Director for the Mexican American Legal Defense Fund (MALDEF); Lee Teran, St. Mary’s University School of Law professor; and Benita Veliz, a student affected by the Dream Act.

Moderated by Joseph B. De Mott, a local immigration attorney, the format was a five minute presentation from each panelist followed by a question and answer period from the standing-room only crowd of law students, faculty and interested members of the community.

This event was sponsored by St. Mary’s University School of Law, the State Bar of Texas Immigration & Nationality Law Section, St. Mary’s Hispanic Law Students Association, and the St. Mary’s Hispanic Law Alumni Association.
