San Antonio – Michael Brzezinski smacked a walk-off three-run homerun to lift 22nd-ranked St. Mary’s University to a 10-8 win in 10 innings against the University of the Incarnate Word in Heartland Conference baseball action Saturday afternoon at V.J. Keefe Memorial Stadium.

Incarnate Word rallied from a five-run deficit in the early innings to tie the game at 7-7 on a three-run homerun by Reno Malay with two outs in the top of the ninth inning. In the top of the 10th inning Tyler Jett singled to score Josh Hood with the go-ahead run. In the bottom of the inning Ryan Morrow (So., Bulverde) walked to lead off and Tyler Migl (Fr., San Antonio) was hit by a pitch. That brought up Brzezinski (Sr., San Antonio), who battled Tommy Salas through an eight-pitch at-bat. Brzezinski took the eighth pitch and launched it over the leftfield wall, setting off a wild celebration by the Rattlers.

The homerun made a winner of Jonathon Perez (Fr., San Antonio), who improved to 2-4 after 3 1/3 innings of work. Salas took the loss, falling to 1-2 this season.

At the plate Colin Stock (So., Klamath Falls, Ore.) had a career-best 4-for-4 day at the plate, including a double, homerun, three RBI and two runs scored. Brzezinski, Reagan Moczygemba (So., Bulverde), Morrow and Migl all had two hits for the Rattlers. Josh Hood of UIW had a perfect 5-for-5 day at the plate.

With the win the Rattlers improved to 32-15 overall and 28-12 in Heartland Conference play. UIW fell to 31-15 and 27-12. St. Mary’s is now two games behind the University of Texas-Permian Basin, while UIW is 2 ½ games back. The Rattlers will return to action on Friday when they host Lincoln University in a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
