WHO: Francis Bok, escaped Sudanese slave, who lives in Boston where he is pursuing his GED. Bok, 24, was abducted at age seven during a slave trade raid on his village in southern Sudan. Joining Bok will be Tommy Calvert, son of San Antonio activist and the Rev. T.C. Calvert, who is the chief of external operations for the American Anti-Slavery Group, based in Boston. Bok has written a new book on his experiences, titled “Escape from Slavery.”
WHAT: Bok and Calvert will discuss the topic of slavery and enforcement of the Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000. The U.S. Department of State has made efforts to combat trafficking in persons – a modern day form of slavery – a high priority in international human rights.
