San Antonio – St. Mary’s University baseball players Cody Pyle and Tommy Vrzal were named Heartland Conference Hitter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for their play last weekend against Lincoln University, it was announced by the conference office Wednesday.

Pyle (Sr., Spring Branch) had hits in all four games as the Rattlers swept Lincoln in a four-game series. He hit .636 with three doubles, a homerun, nine RBI and six runs scored, all season highs. In the series opener he went 3-of-3 with a double, homerun, three RBI and three runs scored. He had three RBI in each of the first three games of the series. For the season Pyle is hitting .308 with three doubles, one homerun, nine RBI and seven runs scored.

Vrzal (Sr., San Antonio) saw action in one game, tossing a one-hitter against Lincoln. He took a no-hitter into the seventh inning before allowing a bloop single to right with two outs in the seventh. He allowed just one hit and one walk, while striking out eight to earn his first win of the season. He has a 0.75 ERA in 12.0 innings of work. He has allowed one earned run on six hits and two walks, while striking out 14 in 12.0 innings. Opponents are batting .143 against Vrzal.

The Rattlers will host Montana State University-Billings in the start of a four-game series Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m. at V.J. Keefe Memorial Stadium. The Rattlers are 6-2 overall this season, including a 4-0 mark in Heartland Conference play and have won four straight games.
