Two former senior military officers will offer their perspectives on issues related to U.S foreign policy and the global war on terror during a public lecture Thursday, Feb. 8 on the campus of St. Mary’s University.

The lecture, which is free and open to the public, is sponsored by the St. Mary’s University Graduate International Relations Program and the Center for Arms Control and Non-Proliferation. It will start at 7 p.m. in room 108 of the AT&T Center for Information Technology on the St. Mary’s campus. The lecture topics will include nuclear non-proliferation, North Korea and Iran, U.S. Foreign Policy, and the war on terror.

About the speakers:

Robert Gard Jr., Ph.D., is a retired U.S. Army lieutenant general and currently the senior military fellow at the Center for Arms Control and Non-Proliferation. While active duty, he served as executive assistant to the Secretary of Defense, Commander General of the U.S. Army Personnel Center and president of the National Defense University. He retired after 31 years in the military, having served in Korea and Vietnam. Gard holds a Ph.D. from Harvard University and West Point Military Academy.

Richard L. Klass retired as a colonel with 22 years in the Air Force. While active duty, he served as a White House Fellow, assistant for Western Europe in the Office of the Secretary of Defense, and as an assistant in the defense secretary’s office of International Security Affairs and Policy. He was a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford University and graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy.
