Award-winning journalist John Quiñones, co-anchor of ABC News’ Primetime and a graduate of St. Mary’s University, was the keynote speaker for the University’s spring commencement on May 10.

A total of 382 walked the stage during the exercises. That total includes 281 who received a bachelor’s degree and another 101 who received a master’s degree. This was the 156th commencement exercises for St. Mary’s.

Quiñones earned a bachelor of arts degree in speech communications from St. Mary’s and a master’s degree from the Columbia School of Journalism. In addition to his current co-anchor position, Quiñones also served as a correspondent for Primetime Thursday and 20/20, and has been a correspondent for Primetime Live since 1991.

>Quiñones has won six national Emmy Awards for a variety of reporting efforts. In addition, he has been honored with a World Hunger Award Media Award and a citation from the Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Awards for “To Save the Children,” his 1990 report on the homeless children of Bogota.
