The St. Mary’s University School of Law ranked No. 17 nationally for recent graduates being hired for long-term, full-time positions in government.
Using the American Bar Association Employment Outcomes 509 Report, Law.com ranked the top 20 schools that sent the greatest number of students to government jobs. For 2025, 41 St. Mary’s Law graduates found employment in the governmental sector.
Veronica Elizalde, J.D. (B.A. ’97), Director of Employer Engagement in the Office of Career Strategy, said this ranking reflects the relationships St. Mary’s Law students build with public sector employers throughout the J.D. program.
“Partnerships like the one we have with the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office give students real access to government legal work, and it reflects where they are hired after graduation,” Elizalde said. “Landing in the top 20 nationally for government placement is something we are proud of, but it is not surprising. Our students come to St. Mary’s Law wanting to make an impact, and employers in the public sector notice that.”
At St. Mary’s Law, the Office of Career Strategy provides J.D. students with personalized advising to assist in all phases of career planning and job search strategy. Students may schedule appointments with career advisers who are available in person and remotely to provide advice targeted to their strengths, skills, interests and passions.
For May 2025 graduates, 89% were employed 10 months after graduation.
