Biography

Diane Duesterhoeft joined St. Mary’s University as a Reference and Instruction Librarian in 1993, bringing experience from her previous role as Public Services Librarian at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.

Throughout her career, Duesterhoeft has taught hundreds of students across diverse disciplines — biology, business and marketing, English, environmental science, exercise and sport science, nursing, political science, public health, sociology, Spanish and theology, as well as numerous interdisciplinary courses. Her instruction reaches audiences ranging from high school students to graduate scholars, delivered through multiple formats including in-person sessions, Zoom, library guides and chat services. She embraces a “guide on the side” pedagogical approach, equipping learners to develop their own research skills.

Duesterhoeft’s service extends across the University and broader community. At St. Mary’s, she has served multiple terms on Faculty Senate (1998-2000, 2003-2004 and 2011-present) and contributes to the Women’s History Month Committee, the Laudato Si’ Implementation Committee on Sustainability and serves as faculty advisor to ECO Club. Her commitment earned her the Alice Wright Franzke Feminist Award in 2010 and the Marianist Heritage Award in 2019, recognizing her dedication to social justice, sustainability and the University’s mission.
