Elizabeth Gutierrez, a third-year law student at St. Mary’s University School of Law, was awarded the National Association for Law Placements (NALP) and Public Service Job Directory (PSJD) 2012 Pro Bono Publico Award at their national conference in Washington, D.C. in October.

Gutierrez was called ‘a tireless advocate and true change-maker in the San Antonio public service legal community’. She was honored for her work through the Center for Legal and Social Justice and her internship with Catholic Charities of San Antonio where she offers bilingual legal services to immigrants.

Gutierrez previously worked as the research assistant for the Center for Legal & Social Justice’s Pro Bono and Public Interest program and as a teaching assistant in the Civil Justice Clinic. She has participated in many pro bono projects, including the Ask-a-Lawyer Clinic and the People’s Law School. She has also led the St. Mary’s Women’s Law Association and helped raise more than $15,000 during their annual silent auctions since 2010.
