San Antonio – For the third time this season, St. Mary’s center Kevin Kotzur has the Heartland Conference taking notice.

The senior from La Vernia, Texas has snatched this week’s Heartland Conference Player of the Week Award, the league announced today. This week’s award is third time Kotzur has won the honor, tying Oklahoma Christian’s Will Reinke for the most won by any individual this season.

Kotzur’s honor this week comes from leading the Rattlers to a 2-0 week, averaging 21 points and 12 rebounds while posting double-doubles in both games. But the numbers with last week’s wins are nothing new as Kotzur has scored in double figures in all 15 games on the season and has posted double-doubles in all but four games.

Playing in his final season with the Rattlers, Kotzur continues to steadily move up ranks in the St. Mary’s record books and is among the top in Heartland Conference statistics this season. He is ranked No. 1 in the conference in rebounding, averaging 11.1 boards per contest, third in scoring with an 18.5 point average, is No. 1 in field goal percentage at .638 and No. 2 in blocked shots 18 on the season.

Kotzur is also the Heartland Conference’s all-time leading rebounder.

Kotzur and the Rattlers (14-3, 4-2 in conference) are currently holding the third-place rank in conference, and are looking to bump up as the second round of league play draws closer.

The Rattlers will play their next conference contender, for the first time this season, Dallas Baptist University on Thursday in Dallas at 7 p.m.
