The March 2013 installment of Community Conversations at St. Mary’s featured four past and present members of the San Antonio City Council, who discussed their own experiences as community leaders and elected officials.
The event was held Thursday, March 21, at 6:30 p.m. The panel included Maria Antoinette Berriozábal, who served on the council from 1981 to 1990 and was the first Latina elected to the council; Helen Dutmer, who served on the council from 1977 to 1991 and became the first woman to serve on the Bexar County Commissioners Court; current District 2 Councilwoman Ivy Taylor; and current District 2 Councilwoman Leticia Ozuna. The conversation was moderated by Sonia M. Rodriguez (J.D. ’99), chairwoman of the Mayor’s Commission on the Status of Women in San Antonio, and included a question and answer session with the audience.
Community Conversations is held on the St. Mary’s campus in the University Center, Conference Room A.
The Community Conversations series is a part of the Institute for Public Administration, Politics and Public Policy at St. Mary’s University. One of the primary goals of the Institute is to develop outreach programs that foster dialogue between the University, the public, government agencies and nonprofits to address important public issues.
