San Antonio – It was a close-out across the board on the court Friday.

The start of the weekend was sweet for the Lady Rattlers (1-4) as they picked up their first win of the spring season over North Central Texas College in a clean 9-0 sweep.

Last week’s Heartland Conference Player of the Week Elisha Bryant (Jr., Plano, Texas) didn’t waver from her undefeated streak she began in the Rattlers’ last match against Midwestern State, feeling only victory Friday in her 6-2, 6-2 singles win and an 8-3 win in doubles with partner Kelly Cooper (Sr., San Antonio).

Cooper held her own without her award-winning partner however, going 6-3 in her first set in singles and charging 6-0 in the second for the point.

Huong Huynh (Sr., Houston) and Angelique De Oliveira (Sr., Wattrelos, France) had the win for doubles by the largest margin, going 8-1 over North Central before hitting the singles’ court to pick up the points in 6-1, 6-2 and 6-1, 6-1, respectively.

Valentine Lambrechts (Jr., Belgium) and Denissia Gonzalez (Fr., Houston) had a close call on their own doubles’ court but overcome North Central, 8-6. Individually, the one-time duo served for a 6-2, 6-2 win for Lambrechts and a 6-4, 6-1 triumph for Gonzalez.

The confidence and due success of the Rattlers’ first win comes from a season that has started with near-misses and strong competitors, which has hopefully done its job to serve up a Heartland Conference win over St. Edward’s on Saturday in Austin, Texas. They’ll play at 12 p.m. in the first league game of the season.
